Five Things Friday

This week seems to have flown by, for me at least. Our trash gets picked up on Fridays, and I remember being worried that it was getting full on Monday already...but look, now it's getting picked up again! (That's yet another reason why I like Fridays - no more worrying about full trash cans!)

On a sort of related note, this week's blanks are about time!

1. My favorite day of the week is Saturday because it's a day to relax without having to worry about work the next day either!

2. If I'm having a slow day, something that makes it go by faster is if I have something to look forward to doing after work, whether it's plans with friends or doing something crafty at home.

3. Something I like to do on a weekly basis is Diana and I usually hang out and/or go to Zumba at least once a week. Oh, and also Five Things Friday!

4. A chore that I spend the most time on is washing dishes...some nights I feel like that's all I got done!

5. I never seem to have enough time for sewing - I have so many sewing projects lined up, but I've been stuck on this fairy costume for months and am just finishing now!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is for some reason I really liked these vintage photographs. They seem both glamorous and whimsical, and the squirrel bath one is adorable!

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

Five Things Friday

Is it just me or do ALL the stores have fall stuff out already?  I swear I saw Halloween stuff on display....it makes me feel like summer is coming to end when it's not!  We're smack in the middle of the summer and I plan on enjoying it! Today's Five Things Friday is summer themed:

1.  Some of my favorite things about summer are the warm weather, long summer nights, eating outdoors, wearing shorts and tees, flip flops, sunglasses, ice cream, berries, summer movies, 4th of July . . .

2.  My go to summer outfit is a pair of shorts and a loose tee or tank top.  Sometimes when the weather is slightly chilly I will wear a light sweater and shorts :)

3.  A summer tradition I have with my family is I always go blueberry picking with my mommy and usually my nephews!! I LOVE blueberries they are my arch nemesis. I literally go blueberry picking like 3-4 times during the summer, I just can't get enough of them berries!

4.  Something I tried this summer for the first time is picnicking!! EC and I tried it for the first time and it was fantastic, check out the DIY picnic blanket tutorial here!  We definitely plan on going on more picnics :)

5.  Something on my to-do list this summer is go to the beach on a hot summer day! I need to do this ASAP, living in the pacific NW we don't have too many hot days.

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is the tumblr Tweet Dreams which is made up of cartoon drawings of tweets about dreams it's hilarious you have to check it out here!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

All the warm weather we've been having this week makes me feel sleepy! I am also one of those people who can usually remember what they dreamed about when they wake up in the morning. What about you? Hopefully you can remember a few, since this week's blanks are all about dreams!

1. The last dream I can remember is that everybody in our lab was going to a conference and had to share one big hotel room, and we were all fighting over who could use the bathroom first. The bathroom had two toilets in it, but obviously no one really wanted to take advantage of that!!

2. The silliest dream I can remember is most recently, one where I was getting married to Brian in a church, and he was wearing tennis shoes instead of dress shoes. I demanded that the priest stop the wedding until Brian changed his shoes to something more appropriate! (I know I had this dream because I was determined that Brian NOT wear his tennis shoes to our friend's wedding last weekend!)

3. A nightmare I once had was when I was 5 or 6, I dreamt that I was locked in a dark room with a skull and crossbones sign on it that said "Poison," and the room started filling with poisonous gas. That really scared me when I was little - I imagined that I'd wake up and that would be happening!

4. A dream someone else had that I was in was one Diana had where Brian was set on buying me a really weird, science fiction-y engagement ring haha!

5. Sometimes a dream wakes me up by making me laugh - if someone in the dream tells a really funny joke, occasionally I wake up from laughing out loud, and then I still think the joke was super funny for a few minutes after waking up, but then I usually fall asleep again and forget it. I also once had a dream where I got a bunch of dust in my mouth and spat it out, and I woke up because I actually tried to spit in my sleep lol!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is: this makes me wish I had an upstairs with a balcony!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Thing Friday

I've never been a huge animal person.  Don't get me wrong I think animals are super cute and I love them but taking care of one has never been my thing.  I'm too much of a clean freak to have one.  Currently, I am dogsitting for my sister while she is on vacation, it's so weird having a pet but kinda nice at the same time.  Since I've acquired a temporary pet I thought I would make today's "Five Things Friday" animal themed, so here goes:

1.  My favorite animal is the elephant.  I've always loved elephants they seem like such gentle giants and they always have a happy expression.

2.  My least favorite animals are bats.  The looks so creepy and beady.

3.  An animal I am afraid of is a rat!! They carry so many diseases, even the pet store ones creep me out.

4.  If I could have any animal as a pet I would have a llama or alpaca.  They're long necks make me giggle and they are always so proud looking.

5.  If I were an animal I would be a bird because they can fly anywhere they please :)

**My favorite thing from around the web this week
are these Mini Burger Cookies!!  Aren't they adorable and fun!?!?

Have a great weekend everyone!

DIY Star Shorts

I have totally been lusting over these Current/Elliot Start Printed Shorts but I definitely did not want to spend that much money on them so I sought out to make my own pair!  I'm super glad I did the total cost of the shorts ended up being about $15 and they only took about 1 hour to make.  I'm tempted to stamp stars on a t-shirt or some tote bags, ahh the possibilities are endless!!

DIY Star Printed Shorts

Things You Will Need:

A pair of shorts with plain pockets (I bought mine at Old Navy for $10, they are the Diva shorts, see here)

White fabric paint

Star Stamp

Brush

Masking tape

A cutting board or book

Step-By-Step How To:

Supplies

Star stamp

Fabric Paint

This paint goes a long way so place a little bit on a tray or a disposable plate like I did here.

Use a brush to apply it to your stamp that way the star is evenly coated with a thin coat of paint.

Stamp it on your denim!

And viola! A star is born ;)

For the stars to turn out more even place a cutting board underneath the area you are stamping.

If you only want a portion of the star to show up on the edges, line the edge you do not want stamped with masking tape prior to stamping a star on to the area.

Stamp it!

Lightly fill in any areas that were not covered by the stamp.

Partial stars.  Continuing stamping until you are satisfied with the number of stars on your shorts.
Star shorts! Front view.

Back view.
That's all there is to it!! I can't wait to wear these tomorrow for the 4th of July!!

Have a great 4th of July everyone!
