Five Things Friday

I can't believe the new year will be here in just a few short days.  As I get older each year seems to go by more quickly, today's FTF is all about new years, here goes:

1.  The best thing about 2012 was...this may sound lame but my job!  This was the first year where I actually felt productive and capable of being an actual engineer! haha

2.  Next year I am looking forward to getting married with my best friend!  After being engaged for a little over a year I'm excited to finally tie the knot!

3.   A resolution I have for next year is to be on a super tight shopping budget until my b-day.  I do this New Year's challenge every year and I find it to be super beneficial, I actually might extend it a bit more further out than my b-day this upcoming year.   This year I might give myself $50 to spend on clothes/shoes/accessories every month for 3-4 months and see how I handle it!

4.  I celebrate New Years by I usually have an end of the year dinner then just watch the NYC ball drop on TV, but sometimes I get super sleepy and just fall asleep before midnight.   I never do anything special for New Years.

5.  This year I will be celebrating the New Year by........I still don't know what I'm doing but like I said in #4 I never do anything special >.<!!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this DIY vase, I kinda want to make it for my room.

Have a great weekend everyone and Happy New Year!

Five Things Friday

Christmas is just around the corner - I feel like it was only just Thanksgiving! I'm definitely excited to celebrate the holidays...what about you?

1. This year for the holidays I am going to visit my parents on Christmas. On Sunday I am also going to exchange presents with Diana and watch Christmas movies!

2. A holiday tradition I have is buying an advent calendar from Trader Joe's - they are so fun and the chocolates are so delicious, and can't be beat at $1! Although this year I heard they are sold out at the Trader Joe's in town :(

3. My favorite holiday song is: "All I Want for Christmas!"

4. My favorite holiday movie is: so many to choose from! Every year I usually watch at least a couple of the following: Elf, Love Actually, The Nightmare Before Christmas (although usually more around Halloween time), and The Polar Express.

5. All I want for Christmas (or another holiday) is to spend time relaxing! I'm lucky not to have a job requiring me to work on Christmas day. Oh, and a little snow would be nice (for decorative purposes only)!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is these wintery snowflake nails!

Happy holidays everyone and safe travels!

Five Things Friday

Seeing as I'm heading up north today, I decided to make today's blanks all about this chilly weather we are having here in Oregon.  So here goes and don't forget to play along:

1.  During the winter the best way to relax is by having some hot chocolate, snuggle under a blanket read a book or watch TV, preferrably anything Christmas themed! I'm a sucker for Christmas movies!

2.  When it's cold all I want to wear is a vest of any kind, a hat, wool socks and a scarf, and yes I wear these things even when I'm at home!  My house is so cold!

3.  Something weird I do that keeps me warm is when I wear dresses or skirts in the winter I double up on tights! It makes a HUGE difference and it not only keeps you warm and cozy but it also makes black tights appear super dark.

4.  Something weird I crave during the winter is ice cream.  I know that sounds weird, and you must be thinking why would she crave ice cream during cold winter months, but seriously ice cream sometimes is that perfect balance even if it's cold outside ice cream just tastes so good and it reminds me of summer.

5.  What I love the most about the cold weather is all the accessories, sweaters and coats one gets to wear.  During the end of the summer I long to wear my coats, hats and scarves and towards the end of the winter I am totally fed up with all the clothes!  Right now I'm in my loving winter stage :)

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this DIY Mountain pillow, how cute would that look on your bed or sofa?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

I love Christmas shopping, not only because I love to shop but I love buying and/or making someone a personalized gift.  This year I've tried extra hard to put together thoughtful gifts for everyone and I'm pretty excited for everyone to have them, seriously Christmas could not come soon enough!  Since the holiday shopping season is in full swing today's blank's are all about presents...

1.  I love to give (give/receive) gifts.  I love to give gifts especially when I find that perfect item for someone, but hey who doesn't love to receive presents, I'd be lying if I said I didn't ;)

2.  I always (always/sometimes/never) do  my Christmas shopping early.  I usually always start my Christmas shopping early by the time the second week of December comes around I only have 2-3 gifts I need to buy.  My fiancee is the opposite he ALWAYS does his Christmas shopping late and it drives me crazy!

3.  The best present I ever received was my pillow doll Lucy, I got her for my birthday when I was 7 or so.  I still have her and that doll has seen me through good and bad times!  Such a great childhood memory :)

4.  My favorite part about buying presents is the gift wrapping!! I am addicted to wrapping things, sometimes I'll buy someone an extra present just in order to have more things to wrap!

5.  I like to make AND buy (make/buy) gifts.  This really depends on the person and the gift I have in mind if I can make part of it then I will probably take the time to do so.  I think it makes the gift extra special when you know someone has taken the time to work so hard on it!  But sometimes there are those present you just can't make and buying something is still just as sweet!

**My favorite things from around the web this week are these fun free printables from Oh Joy.  The sayings on them are so fun and inspiring :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

Recently, I've been really into watching Gilmore Girls.  I don't know what it is about that show that is so addicting, maybe it's the mother-daughter relationship or their priceless witty comments, but all I know is that I LOVE it.  I have seriously been considering buying all 7 seasons, I told you I'm addicted, I love feel good shows!  Today's FTF is all about TV shows, here goes:

1.  My favorite TV show at the moment is "Gilmore Girls" (re-runs are on TV).

2.  One of my favorite TV shows as a kid was a show called "Take Part" it was a Canadian kid show and they use to teach you different crafts and cooking recipes throughout the show.  One time I sent in my craft and won a prize, I felt pretty cool because my craft was featured on TV!  It was a plate mask, if I remember correctly, haha!

3.  An old TV show I never get sick of watching even though I've seen all the episodes is "Sabrina The Teenage Witch", there are some episode in which I know all the lines, it's sick, I tell you!  I just love this show so much!  Melissa Joan Hart is awesome in it!

4.  A TV show I hated as a kid was Roxanne, I just never thought it was that funny, I don't know why it was so popular.

5.  When I was a kid I wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons!! I was super sheltered!! Imagine back then the Simpsons was a "bad" show and today there are much worse cartoons out there, oh how TV has changed!

** My favorite thing from around the web this week is this candy cane popcorn! I am seriously making it this weekend!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

Since Thanksgiving was yesterday and today is "Black Friday" I figured today's Five Things Friday could be a mash up of both, so here goes!

1.  My favorite part about Thanksgiving is how low key the day is.  I love how you get to spend it with family, eating and just relaxing :)

2.  A tradition my family has on Thanksgiving is we always eat turkey sandwiches.  I'm from El Salvador and turkey is eaten in sandwiches with Salsa and a bunch of veggies and a sauerkraut like slaw.   So every year for Thanksgiving we always have turkey sandwiches we never have any side dishes!

3.  I always (always/never/sometimes) go Black Friday shopping.  I'm not like a crazy Black Friday shopper but I like to go out that day and buy cheap PJ's and sometimes just random things.

4.  This year for Black Friday I will probably go to Macy's with my Mom she loves going there on Black Friday and I always go with her!

5.  This year I am thankful for my fiancee for being so patient and loving with me, my parents who always support me in anything I do, my sisters for gifting me with my amazing nephews and nieces, my friends who are always there to listen and share laughs with, my cousins for always making me smile, my aunts and uncles for always thinking of me, my grandmothers for being such strong women and for all the new people I encounter who are always so kind.

** My favorite things from around the web this week is these pie crust cookies, they look kinda amazing, ha!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy shopping!

Five Things Friday

Hi guys! How was your week? There were all sorts of random things I had to do all grouped together this week. One of those things was going to the dentist, so this post is all about teeth!

1. I don't mind (like/hate/don't mind) going to the dentist. It's not something I enjoy terribly, but it's nice getting your teeth cleaned! Unless it's time to get x-rays...those things they use are so huge, sometimes it makes me gag.

2. Something unusual about my teeth is that my mouth was too small to fit all the adult teeth, so they had to pull out like 4 of them to make room, and remove another one surgically that would have come in sideways!

3. I have (have/haven't) had to wear braces. For 4 years! And for a number of months I also had to wear a Herbst appliance at the same time, which is supposed to fix your bite, but it only ruined mine since nothing was wrong with it in the first place. Ugh!

4. My worst dental experience was when a dentist was trying to yank out one of my teeth with a pliers or something, but she was not strong enough to get it out quickly, and didn't give me enough numbing stuff so it was quite unpleasant. The tooth eventually broke when she kept grabbing on it with the pliers so much! Plus my mom was standing there watching the whole time and looking really horrified, which I at the time thought was also very embarrassing!

5. My favorite thing about visiting the dentist is other than clean teeth, I liked it when I was a kid and they had that foamy fluoride thing you bite on for a minute or two, and then you go rinse your mouth. I always got bubble gum flavor and thought it was fun haha!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is: these pincushions!!! I love them all so much, I can't even decide which one I like best! They are all so extraordinary...someday when I feel like splurging I will have to pick one!!

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

I went to a work seminar/meeting this week and they talked a whole lot about social media, so it got me thinking a little bit about my social media habits.  So today's Five Things Friday is all about social media:

1. My first experience with social media was Facebook, I've had an account since 2004, way back when Facebook was only for people in college.  I opened an account summer of freshman year when my High School friend told me it was a must have and so I was sucked in. But now Facebook has become a place where I mostly keep in touch with family.

2. I prefer Twitter (Twitter/Facebook) because I love how concise twitter is, it is much more short and to the point and I love all the witty things people say on there!

3.  My favorite social media avenue is/are blogs! I love love love love LOVE to read blogs, especially style and craft blogs!

4.  My favorite thing about social media is how you can keep in touch with people or find someone you lost touch with.  My family lives all over the place and I don't have time to call them or text them regularly so it's nice to see what they are up.  Oh, I also love how you can reach out to your favorite brands, celebrities, bloggers, authors, etc.

5.  My least favorite thing about social media is people get TOO opinionated.  Don't get me wrong, I think it's great people have their opinions and are not afraid to convey them and I actually don't mind reading them but I hate being bombarded continuously with them or when people's comments become too disrespectful for general audiences, some level of respect is needed.  My advice is: don't overkill the subject and respect others!!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this DIY dream catcher from P.S. I Made This.  I totally want to make one, I use to make these in elementary school and I remember always having one above my bed when I was younger.  I think it's definitely time to re-live that by making one for myself soon!

This weekend I plan on relaxing and celebrating my 1 year engagement anniversary with my fiance, it will be the only time we get to celebrate it, since once we get married we'll be celebrating our wedding anniversary instead ;)

What are your plans for the weekend?

Five Things Friday

Happy November everyone! How was your Halloween? One thing I did to celebrate was watch silly horror movies - The Faculty, Scream, and Scream 2. Anyway, the Scream movies made me think about telephones, so that's what this week's blanks are about...enjoy!

1. I prefer texting (calling/texting) more. I usually hate talking on the phone because it's so hard to hear people on my phone.

2. The last person I called was the vet to schedule an appointment for my cat, haha.

3. Something I once did with my phone by accident is calling people with my phone in my pocket happens every once in a while. Luckily I haven't done anything like text something embarrassing to the wrong person...at least not yet!

4. The weirdest wrong number call/text I got was when someone was obviously trying to ask the person they meant to text to dinner for a date!

5. At work I answer the phone by saying the name of the lab I work in, haha.

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is: This one-legged man's Halloween costumes - what a funny and creative guy!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

Since this weekend is Halloween weekend today's FTF is all about your Halloween plans!!

1.  This year I am dressing up as a "wicked bat" (see costume here)

2.  My dream costume would be Cleopatra!! It's too cold in Oregon to dress up as that though!

3.  The funniest costume I've seen is ... last year a little boy dressed up as President Obama, and he was wearing a suit and a HUGE Obama mask, it was hilarious!! By far one of my favorite costumes ever, especially when you see it on a little kid.

4.  This weekend I plan on carving pumpkins!! I'm not sure which design I'm going to put on my pumpkin this year, any suggestions?  Oh yeah, I'm also going to a musical Sunday night!

5.  On Halloween I plan on dressing up and handing out candy with some of my girl friends.  I LOVE to give out candy and see all the fun costumes little kids are wearing :)

**My favorite thing from around the web this week are these DIY Boo Bags!  I love the little spiders so much!!

Have a spooky Halloween weekend everyone!!

DIY Lips Shirt

Kissed all over.  This is exactly how this shirt makes me feel!  I have been seeing shirts, sweaters and jewelry with lips everywhere so I just HAD to make one for myself.  I hope you guys love this shirt as much as I do!

Things You Will Need:

Shirt or sweater (I got this shirt at Target for only $2 on the clearance rack!)

Red Fabric Paint (I used this one in Crimson Red)

Lips Stamp (Here is a similar one on amazon, I bought mine at a garage sale)

Paint Brush

Cardboard

Paper plate (to squeeze your paint on!)

Step-by-Step How To:
Gather your supplies!
Place the cardboard in the shirt.  This will prevent the paint from bleeding to the other side.  You can cut small pieces of cardboard and place it inside the sleeves too.

Place paint on the stamp with a brush.  Brush the paint on vertically so that you mimic the lines on real lips.
Carefully stamp it on your shirt
Lift up your stamp!  Ta-da, instant lips!  Let the front of the shirt dry completely before turning it over and doing the back side.
Lips, lips, lips!!!
I hope you guys liked this tutorial! Wouldn't it be fun to draw little fangs on the lips and make it vampire inspired?  I want to add lips to everything now!

Five Things Friday

What better way to celebrate the coming of Halloween than candy? (Other than costumes, of course!) I've definitely been investing in candy more lately...have you?! This week's blanks are for those of us with a sweet tooth!

1. I would rather have crunchy (chewy/crunchy) candy. I am really sick of gummy bears right now...ever since I received a ton of extra gummy bears from that one company that sends them with their products, I've had enough of them!

2. I like sweet (sweet/sour) candy more. Sour candy is usually much too sour for me!

3. I will never get tired of  crispy chocolate candies, such as Kit Kats and those Ferrero Rocher things.

4. A candy that I find disgusting is licorice, especially black licorice!

5. On Halloween, I usually give out Winco bulk candy, since it is cheap yet fun and delicious!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this fly necklace - I actually bought it and it will make a perfect present for my boss, although I was tempted to keep it!

Have a great weekend!

Five Things Friday

What are you afraid of?  Since Halloween is right abound the corner, I thought I would make today's FTF all about fears!  So here goes!   Oh yeah, be sure to play along and link us to your blog in the comments so we can read your FTF!

1.  I get scared easily (easily/sometimes/never).  Sometimes even being alone in my house freaks me out, especially when the house makes weird noises!

2.  The biggest fear I have is driving in harsh weather (especially snow, hail, or freaky wind storms).  I had a terrible accident several years ago and I literally have a panic attack when the weather is crazy and I'm driving.  I grip the wheel so hard that by the time I get home my hands hurt!

3.  Something I am afraid of but can tolerate is/are big dogs!  I'm not afraid of little dogs but when a large dog (golden retriever size or greater) approaches me, I freeze up and need to remind myself to continue to act normal.

4.  When I was a child I was scared of germs!  I was such a germophobe when I was a kid, I would constantly wash my hands, ha!

5.  When I'm scared, something I do to make myself feel better is call my fiance!  He can usually talk me through whatever I'm panicking about!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this how-to video on how to make cupcakes with a secret message inside!  Aren't these super cute?  They would be so fun to give out at a birthday party or get together.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

Fall has been slow to come here in the Pacific Northwest, but it's finally starting to feel like it's here! Summer is my favorite season, but I am definitely in the mood for autumn now! There aren't a ton of leaves that turn red around here (mostly yellow and brown), so I always get excited when I see red leaves.

This week's theme is about fall!

1. I know fall is here when  it smells faintly of smoke outside from bonfires, and I have to break out pants and socks after wearing shorts and flip flops for a couple months straight.

2. Some fall activities I enjoy are getting a pumpkin (especially picking one from a pumpkin patch), and going on a hay ride and through a corn maze....and most of all, picking mushrooms!

3. Something new I plan to do this fall is go through a haunted corn maze. I have only been through the non-scary ones, since I am a huge wuss!

4. My favorite fall foods are anything involving pumpkin, squash, and of course Halloween candy (that counts as "food" right?!)

5.In fall I love to wear a dress with leggings - it's great for in-between hot and cold temperatures.

** My favorite thing from around the web this week: this chromatic typewriter...so cool!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

DIY Halloween Potion Bag

I feel like I've been in the Halloween mood since mid-September!  I made this bag for EC's birthday, she is really into the Halloween jars with fun labels so I thought a Halloween themed gift bag would be the perfect addition.  This bag literally took me like 5 minutes to make, the hardest part was probably deciding which label to use!

Things You Will Need:

paper shopping bag or a gift bag will work too (yay for recycling, ha!)

glue stick

scissors or a paper cutter

black paper

Halloween potions and bottle labels I printed mine from this website: http://www.fantasyjr.com/printable-halloween-labels/

Step-By-Step How To:

Gather your supplies and cut out your labels!

Make sure you cut the backing big enough to cover any sign or image on your bag.

Cut your potion labels and black paper

Apply some glue on the potion label

Paste it on the black backing you created, make sure it is centered!

Now glue it one on each side of the back and that's it!!

That's all there is to it!  This bag would be great to decorate your house for Halloween, you can place fun jars or black flowers inside or you can use it to place a gift inside like I did.

I hope you guys are having a great October so far!

Five Things Friday

The fall weather makes me crave cookies! Is that weird? Do you guys have any weird craving during the fall?  I think it's the crispness in the air that makes me long for some fresh baked cookies or pumpkin anything.  Today's blanks are all about cookies!

1.  My favorite type of cookies are oh man this is an EXTREMELY hard question to answer, I guess one of my favorite type of cookies are alfajorez.  They are pretty time consuming to make but they are so light and tasty and the dulce de leche filling is to die for! This is one of my favorite recipes to make them minus the coconut, I like mine plain with just powdered sugar mmm :)

2.  Store bought or homemade?? I prefer homemade cookies any day, especially if they are fresh out of the oven.

3.  I like to eat my cookies warm (warm/cold).  I like to heat them in the microwave for 5-10 seconds, they get all warm and nice.  I'm also WAY too impatient to let them cool after I bake them, I get super anxious and want to eat one immediately!

4.  My favorite store bought cookies are Oreos.  I love Oreos, I wish they sold them in small packages.

5.  My favorite topping(s) on sugar cookies is/are sprinkles and frosting (nothing/sprinkles/frosting/chocolate chips/candy/sugar/cinnamon and sugar, etc).  I'm a sucker for sprinkles and frosting and if both are found together, even better!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this slideshow of fall sewing projects from Martha Stewart, my favorite are the leaf pillows.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

Happy Friday everyone! Today is an especially nice Friday because...it's my birthday! With that in mind, today's blanks are about nothing but birthdays!

1. This year for my birthday, I turned/am turning   25  and I did/will:  go to this big genomics conference that always falls exactly on my birthday every year.....and then on Saturday I am having breakfast with DD! My parents also wanted to come visit one of the days this weekend for lunch.

2. A birthday tradition I have is: I usually just go out for dinner with friends because our house is usually too boring/messy to have a party in. Our lab usually has some sort of surprise celebration (disguised as a lab meeting) too!

3. My favorite kind of birthday cake is: German chocolate since that is what my parents always got for anybody's birthday when I was growing up...but really any kind of cake is delicious!

4. My astrological sign is  Virgo  and birthstone is  sapphire.

5. Someone famous who shares the same birthday: Gustav Holst (composer of the orchestral work The Planets), and apparently also Stephen King and Bill Murray.

My favorite thing from around the web this week is: These DIY Halloween Bottles and Spice Jars! I'm definitely excited for Halloween already!

Have a great weekend everybody!

Five Things Friday

This week has felt so odd somehow.  Wednesday felt like Thursday and today does not feel like Friday, maybe it's because last week was a 4 day week.  Oh well, whatever the reason, I'm glad it's Friday!!  Now that the summer is officially coming to an end, I feel like I'm finally getting to wind down, so today's Five Things Friday is all about relaxation.

1.  My favorite way to relax is by spending time at home and reading, whether it's a book, magazine or blogs on my kindle.  Reading anything helps me wind down.

2.  A scent that makes me relax is lavender but in the fall the smell of pumpkin spice candlea makes me relax.  Sometimes I light it before bedtime so my room smells like autumn.

3.  My favorite relaxation food is tea + a piece of chocolate.  Somehow this combo makes me sleepy.

4.  When I'm sore after a long work out or a long day at work I take a bath!! It always helps soothe my muscles.

5.  My favorite person to relax with is my fiance.  I always feel 100% comfortable when I'm with him so it's easy to feel relaxed.  I love just watching TV with him and napping, he's so warm and comfy, I can nap on him forever!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this fall inspired almond bark!! It seems super easy to make and very Halloween-y!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Five Things Friday

This week has definitely zoomed by, with it being a four-day week and all! A couple days ago I got a haircut. It was just a trim, but favorite part is having soft, straight hair for a couple days after the cut! So, this week's theme is hair!

1. My hair is wavy/slightly curly, thick, and about shoulder length right now.

2. I usually wear my hair down now that it is short, but when it is longer I often had it in a loose bun to keep it out of the way, since would be really big otherwise.

3. The biggest hair disaster I've had was when I went to get a haircut, and I wanted side bangs, but the lady gave me the most horrible front bangs ever! They were so choppy, thin, and short. She totally did not get that I had non-straight hair, and cut it as if I had normal Asian hair!

4. A haircut/hairstyle I love but would never get myself is pastel-colored hair (like elycia's in these pics), or rainbow hair (like Kaylah's in these pics). I adore colorful hair, but it is so not something I could pull off! Another hairstyle I like are cute front bangs, but my hair is too frizzy for me to ever get them (see above).

5.  Next plans for my hair: I'm trying to grow it out and have it get nice and long again. I'll also probably continue to henna it since I like having the subtle red tint and conditioning treatment. It was a lot of fun having shorter hair, but in the end I'm a long hair gal!

Favorite thing from around the web this week: This photo of cats waiting for fishermen's seafood.

Have an excellent weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

Fun fact: Did you know Oregon was the FIRST, yes the FIRST, state to make Labor Day a holiday? Didn't think Oregon was that cool, did ya? Anyway, in honor of Labor Day I decided to make today's Five Things Friday, work themed!

1.  My day job is Electrical & Control Systems Engineer.  I hate being asked this question by people, so I am sorry for asking it if you don't like answering it but it was a must!!  It's not that I'm shy about what I do but it's the questions and comments that follow it that are kind of awkward, I get things like "I've never met a female electrical engineer before", "you must be a really smart girl to have studied that", "what does an electrical engineer do?", "do you design circuits?", "do you work with computers?", etc... the list of random questions goes on and on.  I don't mind answering them but upon describing what I do I get a lot of really blank stares and nods which just makes things awkward.

2.  What I love most about my job is I get to see and be a part of how things are made.  Just this week I got to see how particleboard was made, being around that huge machinery getting to see how everyday things are made is a pretty cool experience.  Earlier this year I was able to see and be a part of how paper and toilet paper was made.  It's things that you would only see on TV and being able to contribute even if it is for something small is really neat.

3.  My dream job would be a full time crafter!! If I could craft all day long I would!

4.  When I was little I always wanted to be an astronaut!  I always thought it would be cool to go up in space.

5.  A career I admire but would never be able to do is be a doctor.  I would be so afraid of misdiagnosing people and I don't know if I could be so patient with people either.

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is this bunny chair.  Yes a BUNNY chair! Wouldn't it be cool for your office??

Have a great long weekend everyone!!

DIY J.Crew Heart Sweater

I feel like I can't get enough of this J.Crew heart sweater but I was definitely not into the price so I decided to make my own with a little fabric paint and a $12 sweater from Forever 21.

Things You Will Need:

- Fabric paint, I used this fun glitter one
- Sweater
- Paint Brush
- Cardboard
- Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Tape

Step-By-Step How To:

Gather your supplies and draw out a random heart shape, it's ok if your heart is not symmetrical.

Cut out your heart, now you have a template to paint with.

Place the cardboard inside the sweater, underneath the area you plan to paint.

Tape your template on the sweater.

Start painting the heart, be sure to add a very thin layer of paint, you don't want your heart to be too stiff once it dries.

Smooth out any lumps in the paint.

Carefully remove the paper template

Now smooth out the edges and let it dry overnight.
Now you're ready to wear it!

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, I can definitely see myself wearing this sweater all winter.  I think the heart would look fun on a t-shirt or on a tote bag!

Five Things Friday

For some reason, summer seems like a good time to get a lot of reading done. I always imagine spending an afternoon reading at the beach or at the park, but it hasn't happened yet this year. But, I have gotten through quite a few books this year. What about you?

Anyway this week's blanks are all about reading:

1. My favorite type of book to read is novels. I often find ones about dystopia or mythical ones particularly interesting. I also love it when there's a movie made out of a book. Then I like reading the book first and watching the movie afterwards.

2. What I'm currently reading: Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. I watched the Legend of the Seeker TV series, so I know what everybody in the book "looks" like!

3. An author/book that I like is pretty much anything by John Steinbeck.

4. I usually like to read (when/where): right before bed - sometimes I don't feel sleepy unless I read something before going to sleep!

5. If I could choose a "book world" to live in, I would choose Harry Potter! Who wouldn't want to go to Hogwarts?!

**My favorite thing from around the web this week is: these tips from the old days for being a proper date. The pictures of them acting like they passed out are just so silly!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Five Things Friday

I live in a college town and my favorite time of the year is the summer because the town literally becomes a ghost town.  It becomes super quiet and everything seems to slow down and things feel more care free and easy, just what summer is suppose to feel like.  But summer is approaching its end and school is right around the corner so today's FTF is school themed!

1.  A back to school ritual I had growing up was I would organize all my school supplies the night before and lay out my back to school outfit.  I was super OCD about organizing my supplies and making sure I had everything.

2.  My favorite class in school was math!! I've always been good with number and math class was always my favorite.

3.  My favorite thing about going back to school were the school supplies!! It seems like school supplies are getting cuter and cuter it makes me wish I was back in school.

4.  I was shy (shy/outgoing/athletic/etc...) in school.  It wasn't until college that I became more outgoing.

5.  The most random or embarrassing thing that happened to me at school was hmm, I've actually had A LOT of random/embarrassing moments, I've always been super clumsy and uncoordinated so random stuff always happens to me.  OK, so I am BAD at sports that involve a ball, football, softball, basketball, soccer, tennis, ping pong, anything with a ball and I am BAD at it!! I'm just too uncoordinated for team sports.  Anyway, during middle school gym class we ALWAYS played softball and I never caught a ball or hit the ball, I was bad like I said, but ONE time the ball fell directly in my hands!!  I was so shocked I had caught the ball that I just stared at it in amazement until my team and the gym teacher started yelling at me to throw it.  Afterwards the gym teacher asked me in front of everyone "Why were you so shocked to catch the ball??".  I was still in shock so I didn't even know what to say, haha.

**My favorite thing from around the web this week are these strange and funny google street view photos Kate linked on her twitter!

I hope you guys have a great weekend!!

DIY College Athletic Shorts

Being an Oregon State University (OSU) grad I love to wear beaver gear but let's face it college gear can be expensive!  I made these OSU themed shorts the other day to wear when I go on a run or to Zumba.  They were pretty easy to make and I love the faded look of the letters.

Step-By-Step How To:
  1. Things you will need:
    • Jersey Shorts in the color of your choice
    • Chalk
    • Clorox Bleach Pen
    • Plastic Bag or Plastic Cutting Board
  2. Place a bag or the cutting board underneath the area you plan to apply the bleach
  3. With the chalk draw your university logo on the shorts
  4. Go over the logo with the bleach pen and let dry for 2-3 minutes
  5. Wash off the bleach, next wash the shorts in washing machine and dry
  6. If the design is not dark enough repeat steps 4-5
We've had such hot weather here in the PNW I'm kinda looking forward to fall >.<

How is the weather where you live?

Five Things Friday

This week I feel like I've been having especially good things to eat. I went out more than usual and had a lot of delicious food in restaurants, too. So this week's blanks are all about...dinner!

1. My favorite kind of food to eat at a restaurant is: anything that I wouldn't usually be able to make at home, such as fancy Chinese or Italian food. I also like buffets every now and then - it's fun being able to try so many different things at once!

2. When I'm really hungry and want something quick, my go-to restaurant is: La Rocha on 9th street - Brian and I always get a super grande burrito and each eat half. It's such an enormous burrito and so good!

3. A bad restaurant experience I had was at: I've never had a terrible experience, but I didn't really like Terminus, which DD and I tried for Culinary Week this year - it seemed like the dish was full of random ingredients thrown together, and it wasn't even that tasty!

4. A dish that I am great at making is: sauteed chicken breasts with mustard cream sauce (from my Martha Stewart recipe book). It's simple, quick and something I can always make easily!

5. While eating dinner at home, I usually sit on the couch with Brian and watch an episode of whatever TV show we're currently into (right now it's Buffy). It would be nice to sit at a table and eat like a normal person sometimes, but Brian's stuff is usually all over our table being in the way!

My favorite thing from around the web this week is: these cute little stuffed plants! I especially like the succulent ones...I just want to squeeze their stuffed fabric leaves!

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Five Things Friday

Since the Olympics are going on this week I thought it would only be appropriate to make this weeks FTF Olympic themed!  I've definitely been Olympic inspired these days wearing lots of red, white and blue.  Anyhow, here is today's FTF, play along and leave a comment below linking your answers to this weeks FTF:

1.  I sometimes (always/never/sometimes) watch the opening ceremonyThis year I was super busy so I wasn't able to watch it, I feel like I've missed out on some big thing!

2.  My favorite Olympic sport to watch is gymnastics!  It's so amazing what they can achieve and all the gymnasts are so young!

3.  If I were an Olympic athlete I would be a swimmer because I love the water! Too bad I'm too short and uncoordinated for that!!

4.  My least favorite sport to watch is mens volleyball.  Something about it that I don't like!

5.  Name the first Olympic athlete that pops into your head Ryan Lochte! Only because I came across this parody earlier this week.

My favorite thing from around the web this week is this Glamour article: 10 Things Girls ALWAYS Do in Movies and NEVER Do in Real Life and MORE Things Girls Always Do in Movies And Never Do in Real Life--As Pointed Out By You Guys!!  They are all so true, my favorite is "Legs and underarms are perfectly smooth" this is beyond true, HOW do they have time to be perfectly smooth ALL the time!??! IMPOSSIBLE!!

Have a great weekend everyone!!
